In order to bring people together to create a new togetherness in society and to do that nationwide committed partner are required. It takes those local people to be there on-site and to give the
project their own individual note.
Simply anyone - be it a student or a senior citizen with or without experience in the field - anyone is welcome to found their own new SwaF location in their home town. The only thing that is
required is that you must be at least 18 years old.
Building up a new location is exciting and covers a couple of different fields of activities. Doing that besides your job and private life means you need a team of engaged people. It would be too
much for one single person and it is more fun with more people anyway. In order to cover the different fields of activity a team should have at least five people who intend to work together for a
longer period of time.
Specifically the fields to be covered are:
Location coordinator (networking, connection to Swaf Bund, quality management), at least two intermediaries and one person for event management and one in charge of PR and fundraising.
Practically these fields are overlapping a lot but it is still important to have one person in charge to keep an overview.
Every Start with a Friend founder team gives their own location its own personal note. Your interests and your professional backgrounds are are what makes every location unique and we are looking
forward to that - but there is a proven fundamental concept that has to be recognized when building up a new location.
It is important to get in contact with those actors who are established in your town first before founding a new location - be it advisory offices or asylums, the mayor or local cultural centers
and cafés. Their opinions and experiences count a lot and their help is necessary in the development of a new location.
Start with a Friend brings people together personally. We are confident about that concept. A personal conversation is the basis for a stable tandem partnership in which we take interests and
needs into consideration. A first personal meeting is always the first step but that can also mean a group of people coming together not necessarily a one-to-one situation. Every location decides
for themselves how many people enter a tandem partnership. As a benchmark a team of seven can establish and accompany around a hundred tandems per year.
Start with a Friend does not only bring together individuals to enter tandems, we also try to bring tandems together with other tandems. Events like our monthly hangouts or joint trips are great
opportunities for everyone to meet other members of our community.
- Quality management and obligation
Start with a Friend stays with the tandem partnerships after they have become established. It is therefore important to receive feedback and be a reliable contact for everyone. Possible inquiries
deserve a prompt reply and ideas and suggestions from participants must be taken seriously for our project to move forward.
- Cooperation Start with a Friend Bund
Start with a Friend Bund is at your service if you have questions or face a challenge. We manage the knowledge transfer between all locations so that everyone can profit. The exchange of ideas,
documents and tools requires one fix contact person per location.
- Public relations and fundraising
Start with a Friend wants to get as many people as possible involved. This requires involving the local public. We would like to share your activities and stories within our general PR work. It
is therefore important to share your events and stories with us in the first place. Start with a Friend Bund can also support financially with a start-up budget but it is still important for
every location to develop a budget. We will support you with all our know-how concerning funding proposals or fundraising.
Start with a Friend grants every new location a start-up budget of 500€. This can be used to cover printing costs or plan events. After that every location has to find their own financing which
could be achieved by fundraising on a local or the state or federal level upon consultation with us and other relevant SwaF locations. We support a possible full-time employment for Start with a
Friend and corresponding financing requirements.
Building up a new location requires a lot of commitment and working together as a team is crucial from the beginning to divide the different fields between the members of your team. Over a longer
period of time every team member should probably dedicate at least five hours per week and be motivated to go to events but this can vary.
We are happy that you want to found a new Start with a Friend location in your region and want to support you in that. The next step would be filling out these forms and send them to our
responsible contact Sarah Rosenthal : firstname.lastname@example.org
- Short introduction of your team and the planned allocation of responsibilities
- A motivation letter including targets (one month - six months - one year)
- A location analysis (one page max.): Who are important actors in your region? Is there a need for a tandem project and in how far is there a need? Are there potential partners or sponsors ?
As soon as we looked through your paperwork we will get in touch with you personally to get to know you better in an actual conversation.
